Vancouver, BC: June 22, 2010 – At Digitech Renewable Printer Cartridges Company, it’s easy being green. It’s a 20-year commitment upheld in their business practices and reflected in their quality laser printer products and service excellence. From their ISO certified, uniquely remanufactured printer cartridges down to their earth-friendly office soap, today Digitech is a recyclable leader who walks, even sprints, the talk.
Whether it’s a service call, product delivery or employee commute, Digitech sees green. They have a fleet of fuel-efficient hybrid Toyota Prius vehicles poised to deliver their remanufactured cartridges in eco-friendly re-usable boxes with re-sealable bags. Employees, too, have the option to go green to and from work with company-funded transit passes and on-site bike storage.
Digitech President Dave McConachie says that when he began managing the company in 2005, he planned to fully commit to the environment -- and the biggest part of that, he says, is keeping more than 800 cartridges per month out of local landfills.
“The largest component of a printer cartridge is plastic which accounts for eight per cent of the weight of a landfill, plus 30 per cent of the volume. We, and our clients, directly withhold more than 1,000 kilograms of plastic and waste metal from local landfills each month, roughly the weight of three standard refrigerators. It makes a big impact,” McConachie says.
He adds that there are global ramifications to ignoring the recycling problem with tons of techno-trash now littering third world coastlines.
“We definitely want to be part of the solution by delivering a fully remanufactured in-house toner cartridge that will meet or exceed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) quality for all top machines,” he says, adding that there is a big disparity in cartridge quality throughout the industry.
“While some companies simply refill the toner and others only partially disassemble their cartridges, we go the extra mile,” he says.
“We’ve experimented with new bio-products and green processes to create recycled products that perform as well as, or better than new. We carefully disassemble, meticulously remanufacture and rigorously test our toner cartridges until they reach our 97 per cent performance rating, well above industry standard. And if we can’t re-use the cartridge, it’s taken apart and properly recycled,” McConachie says.
He adds that Digitech’s customer base has significantly grown in the past decade, as customers realize that they can make a sustainable choice and still get affordable toner products which are safe for their machine that provide excellent print quality.
“Our commitment to quality and to repair, refurbish and extend printer life has accelerated our business. We have regular clients including lawyers and accountants who say they feel good about using our products and services to keep our landfills clean,” he says.
McConachie adds that more businesses now incorporate environmental office practices, and so it’s a prime time to become a Digitech franchise affiliate. “With new printer technology including the development of bio-toners, there are business opportunities to lead on the cutting edge,” he says.
Digitech is a proud member of Climate Smart, employing best practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company also participates in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup and is strongly committed to helping Variety – the children’s charity.
